Taxpayer Advocate Service Changes Case Criteria

Per its own website, the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) is an independent organization within the IRS that exists to help taxpayers resolve problems with the IRS and recommend changes that will prevent future problems.  TAS is designed to be a “safety net” for taxpayers who are experiencing problems with the IRS, but by its own admission, cannot service all taxpayers that are experiencing problems.  Therefore, the TAS has specified the types of cases that it typically accepts, saying that the agency wishes to focus on cases “where we can add the most value.”  The following link provides the press release with further information and a list of the four categories of cases that the TAS wishes to engage.
